How can we ever thank the municipality of Igouminitsa enough for allowing us to camp for two nights in their closed camping site? There could never be words enough to bless them for this time of respite and peace and composure. The water in the showers was hot and the staff friendly. The sun shone and let us forget the rain and cold of Italy.

Also, the place was right in the beach north of the port and we were able to swim like young seals while watching the huge boat come and go. And so, our laundry done (another small pleasure, learning to take responsibility for our dirty things by washing by hand), the car cleaned and reorganised, we were able to go on our way toward the mythical villages of the Zahagorias.
We did leave, however, with a heavy heart.

During our stay we were befriended by an abandoned dog. She had obviously been beaten before because she was deadly afraid of us. Then we noticed that she followed us around and even cried when we went swimming, taking great pain in the fact that we swam far from the shore. At night she would curl up against the tent and press her lonely body against Marie-Do.
By the end of the second day, she allowed us to caress her. Leaving her was tough, but we had no choice and we could not help but think of Saint-Exupery who wrote in the Little Prince that you became responsible for those you befriend.

We never gave her a name.

Here is a picture of her.
