Dear Friends, family, those met along the way and all others.
I don’t know about you, but we’re having a hell of time getting into our site.
Maybe it’s the end of the world, maybe there’s a mega-big-time bug in the
millennial air. Maybe the storms in France have fried some circuits.
At any rate, here’s news to those of you who get this.
First of all, we’re not in Syria anymore, we were not detained by the Muhbarat,
nor put on trial for post-pubescent Zionism. We’re in Israel, the land of
Milk and Honey and staying mostly in Rosh Pina, in the north near the Sea
of Galilee.
By the way, the name Rosh
Pina means ‘corner stone’ in Hebrew, from a prophecy in the Bible, “the
stone rejected by the builders has become the corner stone”.
My daughter, Cléa, came to visit for two weeks and we had a whale of a time.
We’ve gone camping at Massada – the full moon over the Dead Sea plains was
ghostly, spectacular, wild and worth getting up in middle of the night to
pee for – synagogue hopping in Zefat, endless driving in the Golan before
the great surrender, we spend the New Year in Rosh Pina with all the gang.
Cléa left yesterday, on the 3rd .
We’ve planned a camping trip to the Negev and two weeks in Jordan. After which
another month in Israel during which I will finally realise one of my fondest
dreams: renting a room and living in Rosh Pina, going down to Zefat to study
a bissle Torah, and writing writing writing.
Now, we promise to update the site as soon as things calm down a little here.
We still owe you some more pages on Turkey, and news from Syria (we were there
when the peace talks started and became instant stars in Israel whenever anyone
heard we had been to Syria), plus photos of Israel and all that.
At any rate, here’s wishing you all a happy and healthy year 2000. May your
roads be fruitful and peaceful and full of amazing meetings with remarkable
men and women.
Mair and Marie-Do
